August in Shanghai is still broiling with a maximum temperature of 35℃. The first weapon for most people to combat the heat is air-conditioning. Some keep the air conditioner running for one whole day and never steps outside. It is, with no doubt, an effective way, but are there any other ways to keep cool in hot summer?
The answer is a definite yes! For example, eating can ease the hotness. As an Oatmeal company from Finland, Myllyn Paras has a lot of recipes that can bring you a cool dinning moment in hot summer, here is one of our cool recipes:
Overnight No-cook Oatmeal
You know how healthy and cool it is just by looking at the ingredients., Oatmeal, yogurt, banana, and honey are very common on the market and also it’s a no-cook recipe so you no longer need to stay in the kitchen by the burning gas cooker. What’s more it only takes 10 minutes to complete it and since it’s no-cook so you can eat it immediately without the need to wait it to cool off. So this recipe as you can see is cool both literally and metaphorically. How great is that!

Myllyn Paras also gives you some new tips to stay cool. Let’s check them:
Hot bath
Many people believe that a cold shower can lower body temperature but as a matter of fact, cold showers close the pores suddenly, keep the heat inside your body and thus cause all kinds of diseases. However, a hot bath can accelerate blood circulation of skin and muscle, dilate blood capillaries, improve heat emission, enhance metabolism and eliminate metabolite such as lactic acid. Thereby, skin perspires normally and body temperature is regulated. Last but not least, a hot bath relaxes the nerves and muscles and can calm you down, relieve itching, stop pain and fight allergies. Though you may feel hotter after a hot bath, after a while, the coolness and ease will kick in. Pay attention though the temperature of the bath cannot be too high. 35~40℃ would be suitable.
Wear red cotton clothing
In summer, try to wear more cotton, linen, silk and other clothes made of natural fiber for they are sweat-absorbent, air-permeable, soft and light in weight that not only they look good on you but also make you feel refreshing, while clothes made of synthetic and polyester fiber are nothing but the exact opposite.
The color of clothes is another factor. Most people would wear white or light colored clothes in summer, not black ones. However, white or light-colored clothes reflects ultraviolet ray that hurts your skin. Red has the longest wavelength so that red clothes can better absorb UV and protect your skin from sunburn.
Swimming
Swimming is a very good way to relieve summer heat for the speed of heat emission in water is almost 20 times faster than in air. The heat generated is way less than the heat emitted and so you would feel cool when swimming. Moreover, pool temperature in summer is around 26 to 28 degrees which is quite a comfortable temperature for body.
Due to the fast emission of heat in water and the movements of your whole body, swimming can help lose weight, especially for belly and hip. It helps to carve your body lines. What a temptation for girls!
WARNING: It is better not to swim for more than 2 hours. Body temperature regulation may be hindered if staying in water for too long.
